LG chairman arrested for suspected involvement in plot to assassinate Benue Speaker

Two individuals have been apprehended by the police under suspicion of engaging in a purported conspiracy to assassinate Aondona Hycenth Dajoh, who holds the position of Speaker in the Benue State House of Assembly. 

Notably, one of the detained individuals is identified as a local government chairman. The law enforcement authorities have taken these individuals into custody as part of their investigation into the alleged plot to harm the Speaker.

It is a matter of significant concern that a person of influence, such as a local government chairman, is implicated in such a serious accusation, which underscores the gravity of the situation.

The arrests have sparked heightened attention and scrutiny, shedding light on the potential threats faced by public figures within the political landscape.

The legal proceedings that ensue will play a pivotal role in determining the veracity of the alleged conspiracy and ensuring justice is served in accordance with the law.

The disclosure was made in an official statement by Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi on Monday.

The statement outlined that investigations pointed to the local government chairman’s alleged engagement with a militia group to carry out the elimination of Speaker Dajoh.

It was noted that preliminary findings indicated the chairman’s involvement in contracting the militia with malicious intent.

Acting swiftly upon credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination, the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) initiated prompt action.

Both suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators during the ongoing inquiry.

The statement emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and public officials.

It was firmly stated that both individuals implicated in the case would be subjected to the complete application of legal consequences as the investigation advances further.

The assurance was given that the law would be applied comprehensively to ensure accountability for their actions throughout the ongoing inquiry.
