Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Coco Jones, 27, and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, 28, are officially engaged.
The couple announced the news on Friday, July 11, 2025, through coordinated posts on Instagram.
Mitchell shared a video of the proposal, which took place at a resort by a body of water, surrounded by palm trees and overlooking a pool.
The clip shows the couple walking together before Mitchell kneels and proposes, while Jones’ song “You” plays in the background. Jones later posted a photo of them kissing, with her hand resting on Mitchell’s chest and her engagement ring on display.
In a joint statement released to PEOPLE, representatives for the couple confirmed:
“After an amazing season and a sold-out tour, Donovan Mitchell and Coco Jones took a moment to recharge on vacation, which turned into a beautiful engagement. The couple has been dating for two years and look forward to building a life together.”
Although rumors began as early as September 2024, when they were seen holding hands at an Usher concert in Las Vegas, the couple maintained a low profile. Their relationship was only confirmed in February 2025, when Jones addressed the speculation during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast.
“I love the internet because they definitely clocked my tea — little spies everywhere,” Jones said at the time.
“But you know what, I’m happy… I don’t want to ever feel like I have to be somebody’s secret. I’m trying to protect myself and whoever I love.”
The ‘Let it Shine’ actor made a similar statement in April 2025, during an interview on The Breakfast Club, stating simply:
“I’m happy, and that’s all I got to say about it.”
The engagement follows a period of major accomplishments for both individuals.
Coco Jones rose to mainstream success with her hit single “ICU”, which earned her a Grammy Award at the 65th Grammy Awards in February 2023. She recently completed a sold-out tour in support of her debut studio album, and has been praised for her artistry and vocal performance.
Donovan Mitchell, a four-time NBA All-Star, helped lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 64-18 record in the 2024–2025 NBA season, the best in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Following the Cavaliers’ playoff run, Mitchell mentioned he was planning to “go on tour with good music,” a possible reference to joining Jones during her concert dates.
The announcement has received widespread congratulations. WNBA legend Candace Parker and singer Ella Mai, partner of Celtics guard Jayson Tatum were among those who celebrated the couple’s news online.
