Lekki Port Facilitates Approximately 25,000 Transshipments in Ten Months

—

Lekki Deep Sea Port Enterprise Limited reported that, as of June 2023, it had handled more than 25,000 transshipments.

In addition, the port handled more than 100,000 containers as it marked one year of commercial operations since its formal opening on April 1, 2023.

The port’s management said that the port has shown to be efficient in facilitating international trade, as evidenced by its ability to carry 14,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of container boats. The port management listed a number of accomplishments from the previous year in a statement that was posted on LinkedIn.

Among these accomplishments is the berthing of seventy-five boats, including the largest ship to enter Nigerian waters, measuring 366 meters overall (LOA), and the first vessel fuelled by LNG.

The port administration promised to keep acting as a transshipment hub in West Africa and expressed gratitude for the assistance it received from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), which supplied tugboats and marine services.

“We have established a 153-capacity pre-gate truck park to guarantee effective and seamless traffic management. To prevent traffic jams, this will be used in tandem with our car reservation system at the Lekki Port gate,” according to port administration.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has also been using two Nuctech FS 6000 non-intrusive scanners, according to the port administration, “to expedite the process of cargo examination and evacuation, ensuring safety and security for goods passing through our gates.”

The port management revealed that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has granted it the necessary authorization to handle and receive pharmaceutical products, increasing its operating flexibility and benefiting public health.

The management expressed gratitude to partners in the public and commercial sectors for their crucial contributions to the company’s success. It reaffirmed its dedication to providing superior customer service and positioning Nigeria as a major international marine transportation hub.
