Lekki Deep Sea Port has teamed up with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria to boost staff development through a specialised overseas training programme.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday, the port’s management explained that the initiative is aimed at strengthening technical expertise, enhancing operational performance, and exposing personnel to international standards in port administration.
The statement noted that selected employees recently travelled to China, where they underwent intensive training and gained firsthand experience of cutting-edge port facilities and advanced logistics frameworks.
According to the management, the programme also emphasised innovation-led practices and the deployment of modern technology in port operations.
To consolidate the gains, a knowledge-sharing session was held on April 10, providing participants with a platform to relay insights and lessons acquired during the training.
The management added that the session served as a vital channel for internal knowledge transfer and organisational growth.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Lekki Port, Mr Wang Qiang, praised the Chinese Consulate for its support in facilitating the programme.
Qiang said the training had significantly enhanced the exposure and capacity of the port’s workforce.
“At Lekki Port, collaboration is at the core of our business model, and we will continue to promote initiatives that strengthen our operations and global outlook,” he said.
Also speaking, the Consul General of China in Nigeria, Ms Yan Yuqing, said the programme underscored China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Nigeria.
Yuqing said the initiative was aimed at promoting knowledge exchange, cultural understanding and institutional partnership.
She described the participants as ambassadors of China-Nigeria relations, adding that they were expected to apply the knowledge gained to support development in their organisations.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Matthew Oloyede, described the training as highly impactful, noting that it offered deep insights into global port management standards.
Oloyede added that the knowledge acquired would be applied to improve efficiency, strengthen teamwork and enhance service delivery at the port.
