The Kano State Government has constituted a 20-member technical committee to review the implementation of the newly approved remuneration package for academic staff of state-owned tertiary institutions.
The Head of Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu-Maimota, inaugurated the committee and tasked members with critically examining requests submitted by academic staff and their institutions on the implementation of the reviewed package.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Kano by the Acting Director of Public Enlightenment, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Abdulkarim Ibrahim.
The government said the committee would provide the necessary technical assessment to enable it to make an informed decision on the applicability and implementation of the new remuneration package.
According to the statement, the committee will collate and examine requests, memoranda and supporting documents submitted by affected tertiary institutions.
It will also determine the categories of academic staff eligible for the package across state-owned tertiary institutions.
The committee is expected to scrutinize relevant Federal Government approvals, circulars, and policy documents that guide the remuneration review.
It will identify disparities in salary structures, grade levels and job classifications and compare the existing state remuneration system with the newly approved Federal Government package.
The committee will also assess the financial implications of implementing the package, including additional personnel costs and its immediate and medium-term impact on the state’s wage bill and budget.
Where necessary, the panel will recommend administrative, financial, legislative and policy measures to support the smooth implementation of the package, subject to government approval.
The Head of Service urged members to approach the assignment with diligence, objectivity and a strong sense of responsibility.
She tasked the committee with producing a comprehensive report that would guide government decisions in accordance with existing laws, regulations and policy guidelines.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna-Makoda, will chair the committee.
