Leaked memos caused by fifth columnists, Arewa Think Tank reveals

Recently, some secret memos from the Presidency were leaked. The Arewa Think Tank said it had warned President Bola Tinubu in November 2023 to watch out for troublemakers during his international visits and in the government.

The Presidency now wants to investigate the civil service system to find and remove people it calls “moles” who support the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Chief Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, reminded everyone of their advice to President Tinubu in November.

They believed there were people working against him within the government, causing trouble during his trips.

Yakubu said they advised Tinubu to investigate further to find these troublemakers. He mentioned Tinubu’s successful visits to countries like the United Arab Emirates but noted that problems usually surfaced towards the end of these trips.

“We advised the president to investigate deeper that there might be some fifth columnists around him, sabotaging his efforts to ensure that he does not succeed. Look at the success he recorded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”

He suggested that Tinubu should look within Nigeria for these fifth columnists, as they are not in the countries he visits.

They urged Tinubu to ensure that his government isn’t embarrassed during his international visits again.

Recently, an internal memo surfaced, suggesting that President Tinubu approved the release of N500m for the inauguration of a committee discussing the New National Minimum Wage. The memo allegedly had Tinubu’s signature.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, expressed concern about the leaks.

He mentioned a previous leak regarding funding for Tinubu’s trip to the United Nations General Assembly.

Onanuga highlighted the presence of “moles” within the government who leak classified information, possibly to support the opposition.

He stressed the need for the government to investigate and stop these leaks, as such memos are supposed to be confidential.
