Mohammed Bello Shehu, the representative for Fagge Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, shared that he generously covered N38 million in tuition fees for 512 students from his constituency studying at various tertiary institutions across the country.Â
This benevolent act was disclosed during an interactive session with journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano on Thursday.
Honorable Shehu highlighted that this financial support aimed to assist students in coping with the increased registration fees imposed by universities and other tertiary institutions.
The beneficiaries included students enrolled in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto; Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa state; and the School of Hygiene in Kano, with the latter having the highest number of recipients.
Additionally, the representative allocated N22 million towards covering NECO registration fees for financially challenged students from his constituency.
He emphasized his commitment to prioritizing educational development throughout his tenure in the National Assembly.
Hon Shehu also revealed plans to construct a primary school in the Rijjyar Lemo area, which has lacked a single primary school for an extended period.
He allocated N50 million for the initiation of this project, aiming to address the educational needs of the community.
Recognizing the prominence of tailoring businesses in Fagge, the lawmaker initiated the sponsorship of cluster tailoring outfits within his constituency.
These outfits are being registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission to enhance their eligibility for significant contracts, including sewing uniforms for schools, military, and para-military agencies.
The lawmaker is also actively seeking contracts for the production of NYSC and prison warders uniforms, empowering local tailors in Fagge.
Furthermore, Shehu expressed concern for issues such as flooding and erosion impacting certain areas in Fagge constituency.
He revealed ongoing efforts to secure ecological funds from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to address these environmental challenges.
Lastly, the representative outlined plans to rehabilitate at least two roads in Sabon Gari, an area predominantly inhabited by non-natives.
This initiative aims to improve traffic flow within the Sabon Gari region, demonstrating Shehu’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and addressing the needs of diverse communities within his constituency.
