The Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo has expressed the determination of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Administration to empower the state’s workforce with the right skills they need to excel in their respective roles and contribute meaningfully to the development of our dear state.
He started this yesterday at the opening ceremony of a training programme organised for staff by the Ministry of Establishments and Training and Office of Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with UK-AID, Foreign Commonwealth Development Office and Tech4Dev, with the theme: ‘Digital Literacy’, held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo.
Ayantayo stated that the training programme represented a significant step forward in the State government’s commitment to ensuring that the State’s Civil Servants are not just participants but leaders in the digital revolution. He said it was also an investment in creating a workforce that is not only equipped for the present but also prepared for the demands of the future.
According to him, ‘The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace and our ability to harness the potential of digital tools will determine our effectiveness and relevance in our places of work. Therefore, the need for Civil Servants to be proficient in the realm of digital technology is not just a necessity but a strategic imperative’, he said.
Whilst stating that the State Government under the leadership of Mr. Governor was committed to providing a conducive working and learning environment for all Public Servants, he averred that this commitment goes beyond merely fulfilling a requirement but a strategic decision as a way of positioning the State’s Public Service as a hub of knowledge, innovation and progress.
The Commissioner expressed the hope that the training programme would engender enhanced productivity across various government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and improve service delivery. He emphasised that the State’s Public Servants must be well-versed in the latest technologies and best practices to achieve the objectives of the THEMES Plus Agenda of the present Administration.
Ayantayo thanked the international partners, the UK-AID, Foreign Commonwealth Development Office and Tech4Dev, for recognizing the importance of supporting the state in the endeavour, adding that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to fostering sustainable development and creating a positive impact on the lives of the people.
In her remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun said that the programme was designed to empower over 3000 Civil Servants with the skills and knowledge required to overcome the complexities of the digital age, noting that it also aims to enhance participants’ capabilities and foster a mindset of adaptability within the State’s public service.
She praised the international partners, stressing that the collaboration signified the collective commitment to harnessing the power of digital technology for the advancement of the State’s Civil Service and reflected the partners’ confidence in the State’s Civil Service potential.
The training programme which commenced today will end on 14th February, 2024, and will be held in 10 batches of 300 per batch for four days each.
Present at the event are the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola; Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Abosede George; Permanent Secretary of Office of Sustainable Development Goal, Mrs. Tolani Oshodi; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Ibilola Kasunmu and representative for UK Aid/Tech 4 Development, Mr. Abraham Akpan.
