Lagos Vows To Redefine African Fashion

The Lagos State Government has said it will remain steadfast in its resolve to continue to promote African fashion and position it as a global brand.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka made this known at the VVS Lagos Fashion Show held at the J.Randle Centre for Yoruba and Culture. The VVS Lagos Fashion Show is part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture to support and elevate the creative industries in Lagos, through partnerships, funding programmes, and international collaborations.

She said the Ministry will continue to enhance the visibility and impact of Lagos’s creative talents on the global stage, stressing that the VVS Lagos Fashion Show aims to redefine the perception of African fashion while establishing it as a dynamic and influential force in the global fashion industry.

According to her, the VVS Lagos Fashion Show exemplifies the vibrant and evolving nature of African fashion. “We are proud to support such initiatives that not only showcase our rich cultural heritage but also position Lagos as a global hub for creative excellence“, she said.

The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Oloruntoyin Atekoja stated that events like the VVS Lagos Fashion Show, highlights the immense potential and talent within the creative industries, adding that the Ministry remains committed to fostering an environment that nurtures and promotes our artists and designers.

The event featured a spectacular array of fashion collections, blending traditional African elements with contemporary design. Models also showcased their talents at the event, captivating the audience with innovative designs and a spectacular display of fashion artistry. Attendees were treated to a visual feast of colours, patterns, and textures, reflecting the diverse and rich tapestry of African culture.

Dignitaries who graced the event included TV Show Host, Frank Edoho and notable music icons including Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, and Seun Kuti, among others.
