The Lagos State Government has taken delivery of new pumping equipment for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Iju and Adiyan Waterworks, a move aimed at improving potable water supply across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement shared on the X account of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
According to the statement, the delivery marks another milestone in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to modernise Lagos’ water infrastructure and expand access to clean, safe and reliable water.
The government said the rehabilitation project is designed to strengthen water supply infrastructure, increase production capacity and improve access to potable water for millions of residents.
It added that the newly delivered equipment would support the replacement and upgrading of pumping systems at both the Iju and Adiyan Waterworks, enhancing their operational efficiency.
The state government noted that the project forms part of its sustained investment in public water facilities to improve service delivery and address the growing water needs of households and businesses.
According to the government, modernising ageing infrastructure remains critical to ensuring a more reliable and efficient water distribution system across the state.
The rehabilitation of the Iju and Adiyan Waterworks is fully funded by the Lagos State Government and is expected to be completed within the project’s implementation timeline.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to potable water through continuous investment in critical water infrastructure to meet the needs of Lagos’ growing population.
