Mr. Governor stated this in his address delivered recently at the inaugural “Beacon of Safety Award” (BOS Award) organised by the Safe School Lagos (SSLAG), an arm of the Lagos State Safety Commission, in collaboration with Safe School Alliance, commending the Awardees for their commitment to enhancing safety in Lagos Schools.

He stressed the need for more schools to comply with the safety initiatives of the State Government.

Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Sanwo-Olu averred that the award is a valuable addition to the concerted efforts to ensure safety in all schools as well as the demonstration of the value of partnerships between government agencies and private organisations.

He asserted that all the 24 Schools that were honoured have distinguished themselves by their level of compliance to safety initiatives through a sincere commitment and dedication to safety practices while lowering risk in and around them.

Bisi Esuruoso, the Lead Resource of Safe School Lagos (SSLAG), stated that Lagos State is exploring technology to implement and sustain its safety programmes across schools, noting that the present administration has aligned with relevant agencies, including the Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure safety in schools.

While informing that SSLAG is currently engaging stakeholders in the technology sector to achieve its set objectives, Esuruoso revealed that a portal has been created where the organisation has streamlined every piece of information that the schools need in terms of safety for those onboarded,

“They can also upload incidents, record and report things in real-time. We are also doing internet safety in terms of cyber security whereby we give schools software and tools to ensure that the children don’t go to certain sites while on the school premises”, she added.

The high point of the event was the special recognition of 24 schools for their dedication to enhancing safety practices and minimising risks in the school environment at the inaugural Beacon of Safety (BOS) Awards ceremony organised by Safe School Lagos (SSLAG) in collaboration with the Safe School Alliance.
