The Lagos State Government has announced plans to introduce an automated childcare management system to improve child welfare administration and oversight of orphanage homes across the state.
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, disclosed this at the 2026 Stakeholders’ Meeting on Adoption, Guardianship and Fostering, held on Tuesday in Ikeja.
According to the commissioner, the digital platform will enhance efficiency, accountability, transparency, record management, monitoring, inter-agency collaboration and public confidence in the administration of child welfare services.
“You can imagine the transformation that will take place with digitalisation. Lagos State will always set the pace for others,” Ogunlende said.
Also speaking at the event, the Country Manager of Both Ends Believing (BEB), Mr Silas Gyang, said the organisation’s partnership with the Lagos State Government would strengthen childcare service delivery through technology.
Gyang explained that the collaboration would deploy software to automate the operations of orphanage homes across the state, enabling better management and oversight of childcare institutions.
According to him, the digital platform will help transform orphanage homes into child placement centres while promoting adoption and other family-based care options.
“This tool will help in turning orphanage homes into child placement centres and promote the culture of adoption among the homes and the state.
“It will prepare children for successful transition into adulthood as they age out of orphanage care. It will also provide government with reliable, data-driven insights for informed decision-making on child welfare,” he said.
Gyang added that the system would minimise the loss of vital records caused by human error or natural disasters while ensuring that every child is accounted for and their information is readily accessible for welfare planning.
He further noted that the software would strengthen government monitoring of orphanage homes, support efforts to combat child trafficking and help identify operators that fail to meet required standards.
Gyang called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to further improve child protection and welfare services across Lagos State.
