Lagos Government Lays 2,700 km Fibre To Reduce Internet Cost

The Lagos State, the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology (LAMIST) has completed laying 2,700 km of fibre ducts as part of its Internet Connectivity Project.
This milestone is aimed at improving internet access across the state, with plans underway to extend the network by an additional 3,300 km in Phase II, aimed at reducing internet costs.
Alongside this initiative, the ministry has deployed 450 intelligent cameras and number plate recognition systems to enhance traffic management.
Additionally, a cybersecurity project has been launched to bolster digital security and protect critical infrastructure from cyber threats.
In further efforts to bolster technological infrastructure, a partnership with the private sector has led to the construction of a tier 3 data centre, which aims to improve government service delivery and drive economic growth.
Moreover, the establishment of a data protection compliance project with 70 officers across various agencies ensures the safeguarding of data privacy and promotes fair business practices.
Supporting innovation and research, the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) has provided grants exceeding N800 million to over 60 tech startups and 50 researchers.
This initiative seeks to enhance the quality of life for citizens through innovative solutions and efficient management of research funds.
