The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed several housing estates and private properties across Lekki, Ajah and Surulere over the illegal discharge of untreated sewage into public drains and canals.
The enforcement action was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement shared on his official X handle on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
According to the state government, the affected properties were shut down following repeated violations of environmental regulations despite several warnings and abatement notices issued by the agency.
Among the properties sealed are Pinnock Beach Estate located in Osapa London, Lekki; Vintage Heights Estate on Ojulari Street, Elegushi, Lekki; a property at No. 28 Amodu Street, Itire, Surulere; and another property on Oladipo Dumoye Street in Mashy Hill Estate, Ado Road, Ajah.
The government said the enforcement exercise forms part of renewed efforts to tackle environmental pollution and protect public health in the state. Authorities warned that the discharge of untreated wastewater into drainage channels contributes significantly to flooding, water contamination and the spread of diseases.
The latest crackdown comes barely 24 hours after the Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing environmental sanitation laws and ensuring strict compliance with wastewater management regulations across the state.
Officials also warned property owners and estate managers to adopt approved wastewater disposal systems or risk sanctions, including closure of facilities and possible prosecution.
