Lagdo Dam Intact -FG Urges Nigerians to Ignore Rumours

—

The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation has dismissed rumors claiming that Cameroonian authorities released water from the Lagdo Dam, assuring the public that no such action has been taken.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, the Ministry clarified that the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, directly contacted the Lagdo Dam Manager, Ahmad Bivoung, who confirmed that the dam’s water level remains low at 2.06 meters, with no recent discharge.

The Ministry emphasized that it is in constant communication with Cameroonian authorities and will promptly inform the public of any official water release. Nigerians were urged to disregard false reports and remain calm while adhering to flood safety and preparedness measures.

Prof. Utsev also advised vulnerable communities, particularly in Lokoja (Kogi State), Wurobokki (Adamawa State), and Makurdi (Benue State), to stay alert to early warning signals.

The Federal Government reassured citizens of its commitment to mitigating flood risks and ensuring timely dissemination of critical information.
