Lagbaja praises Kwara Govt for aiding Major Oni’s family

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff for the Nigerian Army, praised the Kwara State Government for helping the family of late Major Segun Oni, a brave officer who passed away while serving on a counter insurgency operation in Niger State on August 13, 2023.

General Lagbaja expressed his gratitude on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the Army Headquarters during a visit by the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, and other state officials.

He thanked the Governor for his exceptional support to the family of the deceased officer and also appreciated the people of Kwara State for their support to the Nigerian Army in carrying out its duties.

General Lagbaja explained that as part of standard procedures, the Nigerian Army usually communicates with the Next of Kin (NOK) of deceased personnel in case of death, disability, or injury during operations.

He highlighted the significant level of peace and stability currently experienced in Kwara State, attributing it to the cooperation between the people of the state and the military.

He assured that the Nigerian Army would continue collaborating with other security agencies to maintain peace in the state.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Army for its efforts in addressing security challenges and maintaining peace across Nigeria.

He also mentioned the immortalization of Major Segun Oni in Kaduna State and urged Nigerians to pray for fallen heroes and support their families.

During the visit, the Governor presented a cheque of an undisclosed sum to the spouse and Next of Kin of the deceased officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Mariam Oni, as a gesture of support.
