Kwara State govt subsidizes exam fees for 55,150 candidates

—

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Governor of Kwara State, has given his approval to provide financial assistance for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for a significant number of students.

Specifically, this subsidy will benefit 55,150 students attending public schools across the state.

According to a statement from the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, as conveyed by the ministry’s press secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye, all candidates from public schools are only required to pay a fee of N2,500 for the examination.

Remarkably, this fee remains unchanged from the previous year, bucking the trend of proposed increases to N5,000 or more.

This decision takes into consideration the impact of inflation and the escalating costs associated with conducting the examination.

The statement underlines that the subsidy is a crucial component of the administration’s commitment to supporting students and their parents.

The primary goal is to mitigate the risk of students discontinuing their education due to financial constraints preventing them from affording the examination fees.

Furthermore, the subsidy is not selective; it is extended to every candidate participating in the 2024 BECE in Kwara State.

This inclusive approach underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring equal educational opportunities for all.

The official communication concluded with a stern warning to public officials, cautioning them against attempting to extort money from parents under any pretext.

The statement emphasizes the gravity of the consequences that will be faced by any individual caught engaging in such illicit actions.

This stern stance is aligned with the administration’s commitment to fostering a fair and corruption-free educational environment for the benefit of the students and their families.
