Kumuyi in Oceania, Not Lagos— Deeper Life Addresses Viral Post

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has denied online reports claiming that its General Superintendent, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, made comments about the United States and the situation of Christians in Nigeria.

The report, first published by a website named Ibom Focus and shared widely on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, alleged that Pastor Kumuyi said the United States was trying to seize Nigeria’s natural resources and that there was no Christian genocide in the country. It also stated that he made the remarks during a press briefing in Lagos.

On Monday, the church released a statement on Pastor Kumuyi’s official X account describing the publication as false.

“The story with the headline: ‘America is Trying to Steal our Natural Resources; There is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, says Pastor Kumuyi,’ is a total fabrication and the figment of the imagination of its authors,” the statement said.

The church clarified that Pastor Kumuyi has not been in Nigeria recently and did not address any press conference in Lagos.

“He has been away from Nigeria for a considerable length of time, holding programmes in the Oceania region and the Far East,” the ministry stated.

The church added that Pastor Kumuyi is known for focusing on Christian teaching and does not make political comments.

“Pastor Kumuyi is well known for focusing entirely on preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He does not dabble into politics, as the false story suggested,” it said.

The statement warned individuals and online platforms against publishing false reports or using the cleric’s name for political topics.

The same clarification was repeated in a separate notice addressing another version of the story, which linked Kumuyi’s alleged comments to recent public debate in the United States concerning violence against Christians in Nigeria.

That notice also stated that any recent statements attributed to him were inaccurate, noting that he had not granted interviews.

At the time the false report spread, Pastor Kumuyi was leading programmes under the Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) in Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and Pakistan.
