Kogi govt dismisses EFCC probe of Yahaya Bello as baseless

The Kogi State government is upset with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for constantly accusing the former governor, Yahaya Bello, of wrongdoing without any solid evidence.

They are wondering why the EFCC keeps trying so hard to find something that isn’t even missing.

According to the Kogi State government, they haven’t lost any money, and they want the EFCC to stop tarnishing the name of Kogi State in their investigations.

The government believes that some people close to the Presidency are behind this persecution, aiming to ruin Bello’s reputation.

They think these individuals are misusing their power for their own political agendas.

They argue that the charges against Bello are false and are being used to create a negative image of him in the media.

The government is calling on President Tinubu to look into the situation in Kogi State and ensure that the EFCC is not being manipulated by political interests.

“We believe that this ignoble agenda is unknown to President Bola Tinubu, who trusted those people with power with the hope that they will use it judiciously for the greatness of our nation.”

They emphasize that grievances against individuals should not involve dragging the whole state into disrepute.

The government asserts its commitment to transparency, accountability, and fighting corruption, which they claim to have inherited from the previous administration.

They highlight their efforts to receive recognition for their anti-corruption work from national and international organizations, including the World Bank.

Regarding allegations of missing funds, the government firmly states that Kogi’s money is accounted for, and they urge the EFCC to stop linking the state to their investigations.

They stress the importance of a fair and just legal process, free from political interference.

The government vows to uphold the integrity of the state and continue working to earn the respect of its citizens and international partners through transparent governance and a steadfast commitment to fighting corruption.

“Our administration will continue to act in a way that Kogites will be respected wherever they go and for us to retain the respect of our international development partners who have persistently commended our anti-corruption credentials.”
