Kidnappers kill Bayero University student, citing parents’ failure to provide ransom

—

A tragic incident occurred involving Talatu Salihu, a final year student at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), who lost her life to terrorists after being kidnapped alongside her siblings at their residence in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

Talatu, a student of Library and Information Science, met an unfortunate fate when her family couldn’t meet the demanded ransom set by the kidnappers.

According to information provided by her close friends at school, Talatu and her two siblings were abducted in Abuja, and the kidnappers sought a ransom of over N100 million, an amount beyond her family’s means.

Unfortunately, due to the inability to fulfill the ransom, Talatu lost her life at the hands of the terrorists.

As per one of Talatu’s friends, the grim situation continues, with her brothers still held captive, and the kidnappers issuing threats to end their lives if the demanded ransom isn’t paid by the parents.

This distressing incident sheds light on the increasing cases of kidnapping and abductions in Abuja, causing fear among the residents.

Recent reports highlighted numerous instances of such criminal activities in Abuja.

An intelligence report from the Nigeria Police Force disclosed the interception of a phone call between kidnappers in Karu, a community near Abuja, and the Kabusa area in the Federal Capital Territory.

The call revealed plans for an operation on either Tuesday or January 17, 2024.

The military source attached to the intelligence unit expressed concern about the scheduled kidnapping operation, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures to address the growing security challenges in the region.
