The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has criticised opposition figures for alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appearance and address at the launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council were pre-recorded.
Reacting to viral claims questioning the authenticity of the broadcast, Keyamo described the allegations as absurd and indicative of what he called “mental distress” among opposition critics.
Comparing the claims to past conspiracy theories, Keyamo recalled a rumour during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration that Buhari had died in London and been replaced by a body double.
“We thought we had seen and heard the worst nonsense from certain characters during the Buhari era when there was a conspiracy theory claiming that former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari died during a medical treatment in London in 2017 and was replaced by a cloned body double or lookalike called Jubril from Sudan,” Keyamo stated.

He expressed disbelief over the latest claim, noting that local and international media organisations physically covered the event.
“Now, some educated fellow (supposedly) comes up with an outrageous claim that the President’s appearance and speech yesterday at the launch of the APC Campaign Council was pre-recorded,” Keyamo said.
“Meanwhile, both the local and international Press physically covered the event LIVE. I really don’t know whether to laugh or to cry.”
The minister added that such conspiracy theories reflected what he described as growing desperation among opposition figures as political activities intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The signs of mental distress are beginning to be evident on some deluded opposition figures,” he added.
