Kendrick Lamar is set to break new ground as the first rapper in history to headline the Super Bowl halftime show solo.
The announcement came from the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music on Sunday, confirming Lamar as the star of the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, scheduled for February 9th in New Orleans.

Lamar, known for his deep lyricism and cultural influence, responded to the news by highlighting the ongoing power of rap music.
“Rap is still the most impactful genre, and I’ll be there to remind everyone why. They picked the right one,” Lamar said.
This won’t be Kendrick’s first Super Bowl performance. He previously performed in 2022 as part of a historic halftime show dedicated to hip-hop, alongside other legends like Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg.
His upcoming headline show, however, is happening amidst his ongoing feud with Drake. The two artists have exchanged jabs, with Drake once boasting in his lyrics about being as big as the Super Bowl.
Lamar is a 17-time Grammy winner, known for his thought-provoking music and cultural contributions, and this performance is sure to be another landmark moment for his career and the genre of rap.
