The drivers who drive Keke NAPEP (tricycle taxis) in Damaturu, the capital city of Yobe State, feel really unhappy about how they are treated by the people who make sure everyone follows the traffic rules.
These drivers think that they are not treated fairly or kindly by these traffic rule enforcers. They believe that the way they are treated is not good or right.
They might feel frustrated, sad, or angry about this treatment. It’s important for them to feel respected and treated fairly while they work.
They are protesting because they feel they are being treated unfairly and are being given big fines for small mistakes.
They are also unhappy about having to register again, which they think is unnecessary and hard for them.
Because of the protest, the whole city is affected. This means that students, people who need to travel, and businesses are all having a hard time. The drivers want the government to help them quickly.
One of the drivers, Bukar Adamu, said that the fines they get are very high, from 5,000 to 20,000 Naira, even for small things. He said that with the prices of things going up, it’s hard for them to pay these fines.
Another driver, Babagana Mustapha, said that it’s already tough for them to make money, and they don’t understand why they have to pay more to register when times are already hard.
But Alhaji Umaru Barau, who is in charge of the Tricycle Riders Association in Yobe State, said that the protest is not right because they didn’t tell the union about it. He thinks they should talk to the government instead of protesting.
