Kebbi Hospital Explosion Linked to Inferno, Not Bomb —Police

The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that the explosion that occurred at the General Hospital in Bagudo was not caused by a bomb or any aerial activity, but by an inferno involving gas cylinders.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday, sparked panic among residents of the area. However, the police confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.
In a statement obtained by The News Chronicle, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, explained that the loud explosions were the result of an inferno that overheated air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders within the hospital premises.
According to him, thorough investigations and assessments carried out by Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, confirmed that no explosives or aerial activity were involved in the incident.
SP Usman added that on-site assessments verified that there was no loss of life or injuries, and the situation was promptly brought under control.
The Police Command urged members of the public and the media to disregard unverified reports suggesting a bomb explosion or helicopter involvement, advising them to rely only on official information.
He assured residents that the situation remains fully under control and reiterated the Command’s commitment to public safety and transparency.
