Katsina United set to host Pillars in north-west derby showdown

The long-standing competition between neighbors, Katsina United and Kano Pillars, will continue today in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The match will take place at the Muhammdu Diko Stadium in Katsina.

In their previous encounter in the first round, Kano Pillars won by a narrow margin of 1-0, with Mustafa Ibrahim scoring the only goal in the 27th minute.

Today’s game presents a significant opportunity for Katsina United, who have been improving under their new coach, Abubakar Bala, to seek revenge for their earlier loss.

However, Katsina United, also known as the ‘Changi boys’, will face a tough challenge containing Kano Pillars, who are in excellent form, having defeated Sunshine Stars 5-1 in their last home match.

In other midweek matches, the top-ranked Lobi Stars will play against Sunshine Stars. Lobi Stars, who recently secured a 1-0 victory against Heartland, will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Nigerian junior international, Kumaga Suur, will be eager to add to his six goals this season when Lobi Stars face the ‘Akure Gunners’.

With teams like Remo Stars, Pillars, and Enyimba closely trailing behind, Lobi Stars cannot afford to lose in Akure if they want to maintain their position at the top of the table.

Additionally, Bayelsa United, who surprised Akwa United with a 1-0 victory, will host Doma United.

Elsewhere, Remo Stars will play against Rangers in Enugu, while Sporting Lagos will try to bounce back from their 0-2 defeat against Gombe United as they host struggling Akwa United.

In Aba, Abia Warriors will host Kwara United, Heartland will face former champions Plateau United, and Gombe United will aim to continue their winning streak against Enyimba.

Although the match between Rivers United and Niger Tornadoes has been postponed, 3SC, who recently earned a commendable 0-0 draw against Plateau United, will host Bendel Insurance tomorrow at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
