Katsina Teenager Gains International Recognition for Electric Vehicle Design

A 19-year-old automotive enthusiast from Katsina State, Ishaq Jamilu, has earned international recognition for his innovative electric vehicle design.

Jamilu, from Kusada Local Government Area of the state, said his project was recognized by the International Art Magazine Japan for its innovative approach to affordable electric mobility.

He disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina on Monday.

Jamilu’s electric vehicle design

Jamilu said his passion for automobiles began at an early age, prompting him to develop his skills through self-learning, online research, technical drawing and 3D modeling.

He said his practical experience as a vehicle mechanic had also helped him understand how automotive concepts could be applied to build functional vehicles.

“I have always been passionate about automobiles. I started learning by myself through the internet, studying vehicle designs and practicing through drawings and 3D modeling.

“My experience as a mechanic has also helped me understand how automotive designs can be developed into practical and functional vehicles,” he said.

The young innovator said his electric vehicle concept was designed to make electric mobility more affordable without compromising performance, efficiency, durability and functionality.

According to him, the concept focuses on reducing production costs while retaining essential features expected in modern electric vehicles.

He said the proposed vehicle features a compact body structure, efficient use of space, a user-friendly interior and design elements aimed at conserving energy.

Jamilu said he was surprised and excited when the International Art Magazine Japan discovered his work through his social media platform and featured the project.

He said the magazine published an article on the project titled, “Revolutionizing Affordable Electric Vehicles: Reducing Costs Without Sacrificing Performance.”

“I was very happy and surprised that a project I developed through self-learning in Katsina could attract the attention of an international art magazine in Japan.

“The recognition has encouraged me to work harder, improve my skills and pursue my dream in automotive design,” he said.

Jamilu said the recognition had strengthened his determination to pursue formal education and professional training in automotive design.

“I want to study automotive design professionally, gain more knowledge and acquire the skills and equipment required to turn my concepts into functional vehicles.

“My ambition is to contribute to the development of affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles,” he added.

The teenager said one of his earlier projects involved modifying and redesigning a Peugeot 406 Sedan, combining his mechanical experience with creative automotive design.

Jamilu described his journey from Kusada to international recognition as evidence of the potential of Nigerian youths to develop innovative ideas through technology, determination and practical skills.

“I believe many Nigerian youths have great ideas, but they need encouragement, mentorship, training and access to modern equipment.

“With the right opportunities and support, young Nigerians can develop innovations that will attract international attention,” he said.

He appealed to government agencies, private organizations and individuals to support young innovators through specialized training, mentorship and access to opportunities and equipment.

Jamilu said he hoped to further develop his electric vehicle concept and contribute to sustainable transportation in Nigeria.

He described the international recognition as an early step towards his broader ambition to become a professional automotive designer and to contribute to affordable electric mobility.
