Katsina State Government Invests Over N50 Million in Education Infrastructure and Initiatives

The Katsina State Government has invested approximately N50 million in the construction of 20 Integrated Islamic School (IQS) learning shades across the state.

This was revealed by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kabir Magaji, in a press briefing on Thursday in Katsina.

Dr. Magaji emphasized that this initiative is part of his notable achievements since assuming office in August 2023.

He disclosed that each learning shade was built at a cost of N2.5 million, forming part of the government’s broader educational reforms.

“In addition to the construction of these shades, we have also procured and supplied first aid supplements, pills, and other drugs to IQSA centers at a cost of N14.7 million,” Dr. Magaji stated.

Dr. Magaji further detailed that the state government allocated N15 million for result framework development, data collection, analysis, and reporting to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the education system.

Additionally, N2.72 million was spent on monthly allowances for 136 reporting teams involved in IQS spot checks.

The government has also focused on improving teachers’ living conditions by constructing staff quarters in remote areas, ensuring stability and promptness among educators.

A significant part of the educational reform plan involves investments in technology and sustainable energy solutions.

The government allocated N120 million to provide solar inverters to 40 primary schools under the Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS) intervention initiative.

Another N75 million was used to upgrade solar inverters at the headquarters of 34 Local Government Education Areas (LGEAs) and SUBEB offices.

To enhance monitoring and evaluation efforts, N25 million was spent on procuring 34 laptop computers for LGEA Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officers. Additionally, N3.5 million was allocated to purchase computers for the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and SUBEB’s management team.
