Kano to Construct Senate Building for Dangote University

—

The Kano State Government recently announced plans to build a new Senate building at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil.

The government is also planning other projects like landscaping and beautification around the campus.

This is part of their commitment to education, as they’ve allocated almost 30% of this year’s budget to the education sector.

They’ve also set up a committee for foreign scholarships, renovated schools, and provided training programs.

Additionally, funds have been allocated for the 2023 accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and outstanding allowances for university staff have been approved.

During a visit to the university, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, Prof. Auwalu Halliru Arzai, promised to inform the governor about the progress of renovating a burnt female hostel to improve accommodation for students.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, expressed gratitude for the support received from the government, including funding for the accreditation exercise and approvals for various payments and upgrades.

However, he mentioned challenges such as accommodation shortages due to the growing student population, staffing needs, and registration fee deficits.

Prof. Yakasai praised the state government’s education policies and urged them to consider sending university staff for foreign training.

He also thanked Prof. Arzai for facilitating approvals and urged him to continue supporting the university.

During the visit, various university facilities were toured, including the library, hostels, engineering and agriculture faculties, central research laboratory, and ongoing road projects funded by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency. Additionally, a new female hostel gate was commissioned by the university management.
