Kano State Gov’t empowers 1,000 female farmers

The Kano State Government has supported over 1,000 female farmers in the state. This support was given to celebrate International Women’s Day.

It was made possible through the Kano State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL).

The news was shared on the official social media account of the State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Saturday, March 9.

The post explained that on the occasion of International Women’s Day, agricultural supplies such as fertilizer, rice and maize seeds, goats, and water pumping machines were distributed to about 1,000 women in Kano.

These women were selected from communities near the large Falgore forest. The aim was to help them cope with the effects of climate change and improve their lives as rural women farmers.

The choice to empower women farmers specifically was intentional. It was seen as a meaningful way to mark International Women’s Day with actions that could lead to significant progress for women, especially those living in rural areas.

This empowerment program is part of the larger Kano State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL).

Through initiatives like these, the government hopes to support women in agriculture and enhance their resilience to environmental challenges.
