The Kano State Government has uncovered a fraud in the March 2025 salary payments, where 247 people who had either retired or passed away were still being paid.
According to a statement on Saturday from Musa Tanko, the Information Officer for the Secretary to the State Government, the illegal payments amounted to N27,824,395.40.
The discovery was made during a payroll validation exercise by the Pay Parade Committee. Mr. Tanko explained that the stolen funds have been recovered and returned to the Local Government Treasury.
He added that the government is determined to clean up the payroll system and punish anyone involved.
A full investigation will be carried out to find out the extent of the fraud and identify those responsible. Anyone found guilty will be prosecuted according to the law.
