Kano State government said it’s ready to give Falgore Game Reserve to the federal government to take care of properly.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf talked about this during the Wildlife Day celebration in Kano. He said there’s a committee to figure out the details.
The governor wasn’t there but his Culture and Tourism Commissioner, Ladidi Garko, spoke for him.
They chose the State Secretary of Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, to lead the committee.
When Governor Yusuf started his job, he saw issues with the game reserve, like people taking over parts of it for farming and grazing. he made a committee to find those places and get them back for the government.
Governor Yusuf also talked about improving the Kano Zoological Gardens in the city to attract more tourists.
Before that, the President of Friends of the Zoos, Abdullahi Baba Yahaya, asked the Kano government to give Falgore forest to the federal government.
He said if they don’t, it could cause problems like soil damage and become a hiding place for criminals.
He mentioned they made wildlife and environmental sheriffs, like scouts, to help the rangers, police, and civil defense tell people about taking care of nature and animals and avoiding climate change problems.
Yahaya said if the federal government takes over, they’ll patrol the area more, make it safer for visitors, and help the states make money from tourism while improving security.
Their message for Wildlife Day is to tell people to stop killing animals and help support them and the environment.
He said “Our message for this year’s celebration is to create awareness for the people to stop killing wildlife animals. Animals and environments needs support of the people.”
