The Kano State Police have apprehended Ibrahim Rabiu, alias Janere, a notorious gangster aged 27, along with seven of his associates.
The gang, believed to have been causing terror in the Katsina Road area and its surroundings, was taken into custody based on intelligence provided by vigilant citizens.
As stated by SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, representing Commissioner of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel, Janere led a group of more than 200 youths involved in criminal activities along Katsina Road and Kurna Quarters.
The gang, under Janere’s coordination, staged a roadblock on November 9, 2023, extorting money from innocent individuals and motorists while also engaging in robbery and property vandalism.
According to victims, Janere’s gang demanded N1000 from each trapped individual seeking passage during the roadblock, causing significant hardship and apprehension among the public.
The arrest of Janere and his gang members, including Aminu Adamu (19), Halifa Bashir (20), Jamilu Mas’udu (21), Abubakar Surajo (24), Ahmad Surajo (22), Muftahu Surajo (20), and Ibrahim Surajo (18), was carried out by a dedicated team from Anti-Daba Operatives led by SP Hussaini Gimba during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation resulted in the recovery of various exhibits, including two unregistered motorcycles, three Papalow swords, four cutlasses, five parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 135 pieces of exol tablets, 10 sachets of diazepam tablets, 150 pieces of rubber solution, and 27 potwin injections.
SP Kiyawa stated that the suspect would face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation.
Commissioner of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel assured the public that the command remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment in Kano State.
He emphasized the police’s unwavering efforts to apprehend and bring to justice those who attempt to disrupt the peace and peaceful coexistence enjoyed by residents in the state.
