Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially launched the 2024 Polio Eradication Campaign in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
The initiative aims to vaccinate all eligible children across the state, reinforcing efforts to maintain Nigeria’s polio-free status since 2020.
Kano, listed as one of the 18 high-risk states in Nigeria, has been a focal point in the fight against polio.
The campaign is designed to strengthen children’s immunity and halt the spread of the disease. Governor Yusuf reassured the public of his administration’s dedication to eradicating polio by working closely with health agencies and local communities to ensure widespread vaccination.
During the launch, parents were encouraged to vaccinate their children and uphold proper hygiene practices to promote overall societal health.
Dawakin Kudu was strategically selected for the event due to its low immunization coverage and hard-to-reach areas.
Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo commended Yusuf’s commitment to healthcare, while the Emir of Kano, represented by Bashir Dankadai, stressed the importance of public awareness and routine immunization.
This campaign marks a crucial step in securing the state’s future health and maintaining the country’s polio-free status.
