Kano Executive Council Approves Major Investments in Environment and Education

The Kano State Executive Council has approved significant funding for environmental protection and educational development as part of a broader N6.9 billion intervention package aimed at improving welfare and accelerating socio-economic growth across the state.

The approvals were reached after extensive deliberations on key governance issues affecting multiple sectors, with the environment and education sectors receiving targeted investments to address critical infrastructure and service gaps.

In the environment sector, the Council approved ₦358.4 million for the construction of stormwater drainage systems and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

The project, to be executed by the Ministry of Environment, is designed to mitigate flooding, improve surface water management and enhance environmental safety for residents of the area. The intervention is expected to reduce perennial flood risks and protect lives, property and public infrastructure, particularly during the rainy season.

Education also featured prominently in the Council’s decisions, with approval granted for ₦285.1 million as the revised estimated total cost for the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.

The project, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, is aimed at strengthening learning infrastructure, reducing classroom congestion and improving the overall teaching and learning environment in public schools.

The Council noted that improved educational facilities are critical to raising learning outcomes and supporting the state’s long-term human capital development agenda.

The approvals form part of the Kano State Government’s wider commitment to inclusive development, improved service delivery and sustainable infrastructure under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The government reiterated that strategic investments in environmental protection and education remain central to its vision of building a resilient, educated and prosperous Kano State.
