Kano Completes 867 Projects Under Abba Yusuf, Says Commissioner

The Kano State Government says it has completed 867 of the 1,557 projects initiated by the administration of Gov. Abba Yusuf since it assumed office.

The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Maaji, disclosed this at a media briefing on Sunday in Kano.

Maaji said the completed projects represented 55.68 per cent of the total projects classified by the ministry, while another 42 per cent remained ongoing.

According to him, the projects have a combined contract value of N996.29 billion, with the government approving N695.20 billion through Notices of No Objection (NoC).

He added that the ministry had vetted payment certificates worth N444.75 billion.

Maaji said the projects span urban and rural infrastructure, mass housing, roads, bridges, healthcare, education, traffic management and other public infrastructure across the state.

He said the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas accounted for 598 projects valued at N299.36 billion, representing 30.01 per cent of the total contract value.

The 36 rural LGAs, he added, accounted for 653 projects worth N287.90 billion, representing 28.90 per cent of the total value.

According to him, cross-cutting projects covering more than one LGA accounted for N159.50 billion, while statewide and other interventions were valued at N249.54 billion.

Maaji listed some of the major projects as the N113.19 billion mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu, the N24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion covering parts of Fagge and Dala LGAs, and the N21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure programme.

Other major projects, he said, included the N27.74 billion Madobi-Yako-Kafin Maiyaki-Kiru Road intervention and the N22 billion Rural Model City Project covering the 36 rural LGAs.

The commissioner, however, said the Dawakin Kudu Mass Housing Scheme and Rural Model City Housing Project remained among the high-value projects awaiting completion of relevant due process procedures.

On financial oversight, Maaji said the ministry had vetted N444.75 billion in payment certificates, representing 44.64 per cent of the total contract value and about 63.97 per cent of the N695.20 billion approved through NoCs.

He assured that the ministry would continue to monitor project implementation, resolve bottlenecks and strengthen its certification processes to ensure that government secures value for money from its investments.
