Kano APC Reacts to Ganduje’s Suspension, Dismisses Ward Leaders

The Kano State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a response to the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.
This move comes after Ganduje was suspended by his ward in Dawakin Tofa local government area of Kano State, on Monday, on allegations of corruption.
The State Working Committee expressed its opposition to Ganduje’s suspension, indicating a rift within the party regarding the handling of the allegations against him.
The suspension was reportedly based on accusations of gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as Kano Governor.
These allegations gained traction, particularly due to a widely circulated video purportedly showing Ganduje receiving dollars as a bribe from a contractor.
Haladu Gwanjo, the legal adviser of the ward, highlighted the decision to suspend Ganduje’s membership following a vote of no confidence, which stemmed from his failure to clear his name from the corruption allegations.
However, the suspension faced immediate pushback from the APC’s local government officials, who intervened swiftly to thwart the move.
Inusa Dawanau, the APC Dawakin Tofa Local Government Chairman, denounced the suspension as an act of anti-party activity, alleging that those behind it had engaged in meetings with opposition forces.
In response to this internal conflict, the state Working Committee of the Party announced its decision to endorse the suspension of the ward leaders responsible for Ganduje’s suspension.
They further revealed the imposition of a six-month sanction on the perpetrators and the establishment of a special investigations panel to probe the various allegations against them.
Abdullahi Abbas, the State Chairman of the party, underscored the evidence of meetings between state government officials and the individuals involved in Ganduje’s suspension.
He confirmed the adoption of the decision to sack the ward leaders, emphasizing the party’s commitment to addressing internal dissent and maintaining discipline within its ranks.
He said: “We have evidence of meetings between the state government officials and those that suspended the National Chairman. The state working committee has agreed to sanction them for six months and they stand now suspended.”
