Kaduna State Implements Movement Restrictions for Local Government Elections

In anticipation of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Kaduna State Security Council has announced a state-wide restriction on movement.

The restriction will be in effect from 6 AM to 7 PM on election day. This measure is aimed at ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections throughout the state.

The announcement was made in a statement on Friday issued by Samuel Aruwan, the State’s Overseeing Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

According to the statement, the restriction applies to all vehicular movements and commercial activities, as well as any other activities that could potentially disturb public order. The aim is to prevent any disruptions that might affect the election process.

The government clarified that only individuals who are carrying out essential duties will be exempt from the restriction.

However, these individuals must possess the necessary identification and clearance that allows them to move freely during the restricted hours. The authorities have emphasized that this will be strictly enforced.

Residents of Kaduna State have been advised to comply with these guidelines and avoid engaging in any activities that could jeopardize public peace or disrupt the election process.

The government has called on citizens to act responsibly and refrain from actions that might provoke unrest or interfere with the smooth execution of the elections.

In addition, security agencies have been fully deployed across the state to ensure that the movement restrictions are upheld.

Their presence is intended to guarantee the safety of voters, election workers, and all those involved in the process.

The security forces will also be working to maintain law and order during the election period.

The statement encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or incidents that might threaten peace and security to the relevant authorities.

Citizens were reminded not to take the law into their own hands but rather to rely on security agencies to handle any situations that may arise.
