Kaduna group expresses concern over rising violence in Birnin-Gwari

Birni Gwari Town
The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU) of Kaduna State has raised serious concerns about the alarming rise in bandit attacks plaguing their community.
In a statement issued by their chairperson, Pharm Jamila Sani, on Tuesday, BEPU highlighted the urgent need for immediate action to address the surge in insecurity gripping the area.
The statement underscored the pervasive atmosphere of fear gripping the local population and stressed the pressing need for enhanced security measures to restore peace and stability to the region.
Despite acknowledging the efforts of both the state government and security agencies in tackling the menace, BEPU called for a ramping up of these efforts to effectively combat the escalating threat.
BEPU’s statement outlined specific incidents that have shaken the community, including a devastating attack on April 17th, 2024, in Unguwan Danko and Unguwan Kanawa of Dogondawa Ward, resulting in the tragic loss of 23 lives.
The following day, traders returning from Birnin-Gwari Town’s weekly market were ambushed near Mararraban Agero, leading to the deaths of four vigilante members and the abduction of several others.
Additionally, the community of Bagoma, a suburb of Birnin Gwari, is grappling with a mounting humanitarian crisis as a result of the persistent threat of attacks.
This displacement of women, children, and the elderly follows at least three previous assaults in the area, marked by kidnappings and fatalities.
BEPU commended the efforts of security personnel, including the Army, Airforce, Police, DSS, KADVS, and local hunters, for their tireless dedication to combating armed bandits in Birnin Gwari.
While acknowledging the support of both the community and government for these brave individuals, BEPU urged relevant authorities to escalate and promptly implement decisive measures to counter the escalating threat.
