JUST IN: Tinubu Nominates Joseph Tegbe as New Power Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, in a strategic move aimed at accelerating reforms in the country’s struggling electricity sector.

The nomination, sent to the National Assembly on Thursday, now awaits Senate confirmation in line with constitutional requirements. If approved, Tegbe will take charge of a ministry central to efforts to resolve Nigeria’s long-standing power crisis.

Tegbe is a seasoned technocrat with extensive experience in consulting and public sector strategy. He previously held a senior position at KPMG and also served as Director-General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership, where he played key roles in advancing bilateral economic initiatives.

His nomination comes following the departure of Adebayo Adelabu from the cabinet amid recent political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The power sector continues to face deep structural challenges, including weak generation capacity, transmission constraints, and inefficiencies in distribution.

Stakeholders are watching closely, with expectations that Tegbe’s private sector pedigree could help drive reforms, attract investment, and improve service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Senate is expected to begin screening proceedings in the coming days.
