JUST IN: Tinubu Appoints Enitan Head of Civil Service, Sets August 27 Handover

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), effective August 27, 2026.

Enitan, who currently serves as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

A native of Osun State, Enitan is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has spent seven years and seven months at the Permanent Secretary level, serving at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President before his current posting to the Ministry of Education.

With extensive experience across key government institutions, Enitan is expected to bring considerable institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the workings of the Federal Civil Service to his new role.

President Tinubu expressed his appreciation to Walson-Jack for her distinguished service to the nation, particularly her contributions to reforms, innovations and improvements recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.

The President wished her a fulfilling post-service life and commended her years of dedicated and impactful public service.

Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service to build on the reforms and innovations already underway, deepen professionalism and efficiency across the service, and strengthen its capacity to deliver on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also urged Enitan to lead a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.

Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.

He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
