Professor Chukwuma Soludo has been declared winner of the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election held on Saturday, 8th November, 2025.
The declaration was made by the Returning Officer for the Election and Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Prof Edoba Omoregie, on Sunday, at the State Collation Centre, in the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Awka.
Soludo, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the election, polled a total 422,664 votes, to defeat his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Paul Chukwuma of the Young People’s Party, YPP came third in the election with 37,753 votes, while George Muoghalu of the Labour Party, LP got 10,576 votes to come fourth in the election.
An analysis of the results shows that Soludo won in all the 21 local governments in the state, replicating a feat only done by his predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano.
Announcing the result, the returning officer, Prof Omoregie said Soludo met all constitutional requirements and polled the highest number of votes to be declared winner of the election.
On concerns about 5 polling units in Anambra West and Onitsha South, Awka South and Anaocha, where incidences of results manipulation and over-voting were recorded, Prof Omoregie noted that the results cannot overturn the results.
“The total number of voters in the places where there were incidents is 10,481, and when compared with the over 300,000 votes margin between the winner and the 1st runner-up, it’s inconsequential,” he said.
Reacting to the declaration, the National Chairman of APGA, Barr Sly Ezeokenwa said the results show that the people are at home with the transformation the government of Prof Soludo brought to the state.
He commended the INEC team for doing a great work, noting that the new INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan has shown capacity to restore the people’s confidence in the Electoral umpire with the election.
Out of the total 2788864 registered voters in the state, 598229 were accredited for the exercise.
The total votes cast was 595298, total valid votes were 584054, while 11244 votes were rejected.
