JUST IN: Senate Amends Electoral Act to Endorse E-Transmission of Results

The Senate on Tuesday amended the votes and proceedings of its plenary sitting of February 4, clarifying its stance on Section 60(3) of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill concerning the transmission of election results.

The motion, moved by Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno, mandates electronic transmission of results from polling units as the primary means.

However, in the event of technical failures, Form EC8—completed, stamped, and signed by election officers and countersigned by agents, will serve as the official source for collation.

Following the adoption, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe sought a division for individual voting on the section but withdrew his motion after Senate President Godswill Akpabio instructed him to proceed.
