Nigeria’s total merchandise trade increased to N41.44tn in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 5.61 percent rise compared with the N39.24tn recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
The figure also represents a 19.13 percent increase from the N34.79tn recorded in the first quarter of 2026.
Exports accounted for 65.20 percent of the total trade during the quarter, valued at N27.02tn. The value of exports rose by 18.77 percent compared with the N22.75tn recorded in Q2 2025.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, exports increased by 27.64 percent from the N21.17tn recorded in Q1 2026.

The latest figures indicate a significant expansion in Nigeria’s external trade position in the second quarter, driven largely by the strong performance of exports.
