JUST IN: Bauchi Assembly Gets New Speaker, Deputy

Following the sack of the former Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Abubakar Y Suleiman, and Jamilu Umaru Dahiru respectively by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, the Assembly has elected member representing Hardawa Constituency Hon Babayo Muhammad as the new Speaker while member representing  representing Dass Constituency, Hon Ahmad Abdullahi, as the new Deputy Speaker of the house.

The Bauchi State House of Assembly arrived at the resolution following the Appeal Court judgment that nullified the election of the immediate past speaker and deputy speaker.

The new speakers Hon Babayo Muhammad thanked his colleagues for reposing their confidence in him as he pledged to operate an open door policy and also work assiduously for the overall development of the state.

A nomination by the Member, representing Shira Constituency Auwal Hassan and seconded by Member representing Burra Tanko Ibrahim, which saw the emergence of Hon Babayo Muhammad as the new speaker and Hon Ahmad Abdullahi, as the new Deputy Speaker.

Backed by majority of the floor members, the new principal officers of the Assembly were sworn in by the Clerk of the House Umar Yusuf Gital.
