JUST IN: 40 Reportedly Killed, Houses Razed Down in Fresh Plateau Attack

Suspected armed bandits have reportedly killed over 40 persons after they attacked Zurak village in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It was gathered that several houses were also set ablaze by the bandits during the attack, which happened on Monday 20th May.

Confirming the incident,  residents of the community on Tuesday, noted that the incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday, when people in the community were going about their normal activities but they could not report the incident as a result of the poor communication network in the area.

A youth leader in the area, identified as Sahpi’i Sambo, who also confirmed the incident to newsmen, said the bandits arrived at the community riding on two to three motorcycles – with sophisticated weapons and begun shooting sporadically at everyone.

He said, “More than 40 people were killed while many others were injured.

Residents of the village have fled to neighbouring communities to have a cover. As of yesterday, security personnel had not yet arrived at the community. It was a deadly attack”.

Meanwhile, as of press time, Spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, is yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.

Also, the spokesman for the Military Taskforce in Plateau State, Samson Zhakom, asked for time to get details of what transpired in the Council Area.

Let me get to the Sector Commander in charge of the area. I will get back to you “, he said.
