Jos Guard Jailed 42 Months for Looting Employer

A 24-year-old security guard, Umar Abdullahi, has been sentenced to 42 months imprisonment by a Jos Magistrate Court for stealing property belonging to his employer.

We gathered Magistrate Irene Pati handed down the judgment on Thursday after Abdullahi pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on trespass, mischief, and theft.

In her ruling, Pati gave the convict an option of fine of N20,000 or six months imprisonment for trespass, N30,000 or one year for mischief, and N50,000 or two years for theft, all to run concurrently. She also directed Abdullahi to pay N400,000 as compensation to the complainant.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Inrahim Gokwat, the matter was reported on October 9 at the “A” Division Police Station by one Ifeanyi Omasu.

Gokwat explained that the convict unlawfully entered the company premises and made away with one piano, three computer CPUs, three guitars, seven intercoms, six microphones, and a blanket, all worth about N1.6 million.

He added that during investigation, some of the stolen items were recovered, while others were sold to a man identified as Adebo, who is currently at large.

The prosecutor further noted that the offence violated provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
