Jordan Wike: EFCC How Far?

—

Crime and crime fighting in Nigeria has always favoured the rich and powerful. It has always been. That is why all we see from the police to the EFCC to ICPC to DSS and the rest, are the regular parade of small fries and couriers by these agencies, while the kingpins, the godfathers are never known or arrested.

The import here being that when laws, rules and regulations are made, they are meant for the ordinary people.

This explains why a certain Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, acclaimed Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council/Presidential Economic Advisory Council is in court alone. That is why his prosecutors or is it persecutors, want us to believe Adeyemi did all that alone.

If you believe that, then you can believe anything. If you believe that Adeyemi secured an office space at the Federal Secretariat, held a meeting with the diplomatic community, opened an account with the CBN, push through the agency’s budget into the Appropriations Act,  met with the EFCC chair and had approval of secondment of staff from the civil service to the agency, you will also believe if you’re told that Tripoli is a city in Nigeria.

We have always known that in this amimal farm called Nigeria, all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.

Equality before the law in my Nigeria, remains a mirage. That is a given, but what is always annoying is when these characters try to force these narratives down our throats as if they think all Nigerians are gullible and lacking in discernment or commonsense.

We’re not all fools.

Recently, a businessman, Safwan Garba, accused Jordan Wike, son of the almighty minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, of swindling him to the tune of $2.1 million for 60 hectares of land in Katampe and Guzape in Abuja, where his father is the lord and master.

According to Garba’s counsel, Ibrahim Waru, Jordan, was said to have presented himself as someone who could unlock prime Abuja land through his father’s office.

He allegedly assured the businessman that such allocations were routine for him and carried the Minister’s blessing.

To remove any doubt, the claimants said Jordan placed a call to his father while they watched and listened. The conversation, as recounted, left the impression of parental approval. That single moment, the petition claims, transformed hesitation into payment.

Two million dollars was allegedly required to be passed to the Minister to “facilitate” the allocations. An additional $100,000 was Jordan’s personal cut.

On 17 October, 2025, the full $2.1 million was handed over in cash at a location in Abuja and Jordan was to deliver in one month. Two witnesses — Adamu Sani and Aliyu Sarki — were said to have been present. A man identified as Onor Sandy accompanied Jordan and was introduced as a friend and associate. Jordan, the claimants insist, signed an acknowledgment of receipt.

According to the claimants, the UK telephone number Jordan had provided stopped working. Attempts to reach him through people close to the Minister yielded nothing and the land never materialised.

They also claimed that a formal petition was lodged with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in December 2025, alleging fraud, obtaining by false pretence, and criminal conversion.

The Commission has so far given no public indication of investigative steps. Waru and co-counsel have since written again, pressing for an update.

So EFCC how far? Is that true or not?

Of course, Jordan has denied that any such transaction took place, he also claimed to have been out of the country at the time the alleged deal took place.

He who alleges must prove. It’s now a case for the courts to decide and Jordan remains innocent until pronounced guilty by the court.

That said, however, what remains curious, although not surprising, is the deafening silence of the Mr. Olanipekun Ola Olukoyede-led EFCC.

Some pertinent questions to ask are, why is it that it’s the victim that is prosecuting this case and not the EFCC, if indeed they wrote the anti-graft agency and also did a follow-up?

What would have been the fate of Garba if he were a poor ordinary Nigerian? Did the EFCC receive the petition, if so, was Jordan ever invited for questioning?

It’s a shame that a Minister who has been carrying on like Abuja is his personal estate has been allowed so much power to operate unrestrained and recklessly.

Whereas this is not yet a proven case, but before now there have been several allegations of Wike converting lands from the original plan.

As it is, all that seems to bother Wike is land allocation and reallocation as well as seeking the comfort of judges.

President Bola Tinubu appears more concerned with the promise of Wike to deliver Abuja and Rivers, than calling him to order.

For the EFCC, they’re simply acting true to type. Turning the blind eye to the infractions of the super rich and the powerful and their recalcitrant children.

For a young man who is barely out of school to be embroiled in this magnitude of a scandal should have been more than enough reason for Wike to resign, but not here.

Rather, what we expect in this George Orwell’s animal farm is that this case will end in favour of the bigmen and nothing will happen.

For sure, this is not an isolated case. That is the pattern of impunity enjoyed by these big men.

While we hope to hear from the EFCC, what remains curious is how there has not been any mention of this matter except in the court. Do we take it that this case is too small a matter to worry the EFCC or the Federal Government?
