Jonathan’s 2027 Presidential Ambition Faces Hurdle as INEC Rejects PDP Submission

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the nomination of former President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2027 general election submitted by the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The development comes after the faction announced that it had submitted Jonathan’s nomination, alongside the names of its governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates, to the electoral commission.

The group claimed it opted for manual submission after allegedly being denied access to INEC’s electronic candidate nomination portal.

However, INEC dismissed the submission, insisting that all candidate nominations must be made exclusively through its official online platform.

The commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, said the electoral body does not recognise manual submission of candidates.

“Submission is only done on a dedicated portal as stipulated by our regulations and guidelines,” she said.

INEC’s stance effectively invalidates the nomination submitted by the Turaki faction and casts doubt on the status of the candidates it presented for the 2027 elections.
