A university teacher, Omolade Adunbi, on Wednesday admonished Nigerians to desist from referring to President Goodluck Jonathan as a clueless leader in the face of mounting social, economic and security challenges of the country.
Adunbi, a Professor of Afro American and African Studies at the University of Michigan, USA, who spoke in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent, believes that the President has clues to the challenges but that those have failed to work and may not achieve any tangible result in the days ahead.
While adding that the insecurity challenges facing the country have continually tainted the image of Nigeria and Nigerians in the Diaspora, Adunbi noted that the President was not prepared for leadership in the first instance.
He said the President has always been part of a corrupt system prior to his ascension to the highest position in the land.
“The unfortunate thing is that we do not have leaders that can shape the future of this country in a way that will promote a good image for the country.
“It is good policies that sell good image of the country to the outside world. So, if you have bad policies, then you are bound to have a bad image.
“So, it is not just about having a bad image outside the country, it is because the policies of the present administration are not working for the people.
“I disagree with some people that normally say that President Jonathan has no clue. I think he has a clue but the unfortunate thing is that the kind of clue he has is not working for Nigeria and it is never going to work for Nigeria.
“All you need to do is to look at Jonathan’s antecedents.
“What is his job experience? What is his qualification to become the President of the most populous black nation on earth? Jonathan once worked as a teacher.
“From there he moved to OMPADEC, a body established by former Head of State Babangida to serve as a conduit for siphoning state funds.
“So, he is someone that has been schooled in the siphoning of state funds and you can’t expect such a person to perform,” the don added.
