Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been officially announced as the presidential candidate of the Makinde-backed Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Jonathan, however, was absent at the affirmation ceremony and has yet to publicly declare his interest in contesting the presidency.
Despite his absence, party stakeholders proceeded with the endorsement and presented a certificate of return, which was handed over to Fred Agbedi, a serving member of the House of Representatives representing Bayelsa State, for safekeeping.
According to party sources, the certificate will remain in Agbedi’s custody pending Jonathan’s final decision on whether he will formally accept the nomination and join the 2027 presidential race.
The development comes amid growing political realignments and speculations ahead of the next general election, as parties continue consultations and strategic moves to strengthen their chances.
